Ceret Cherries
The town of Ceret is well known for being the cherry capital of Northern Catalonia and Vallespir. At the end of May or the beginning of June (depending on the year) the Cherry Festival is held in the town, where you can find a huge market full of natural and hand-crafted products and where you can also taste and buy the different varieties of cherry produced in the area.

This event is one of most important food festivals in Northern Catalonia: different restaurants and bakeries in the area offer special menus and desserts around these dates, with the town’s star ingredient, the cherry. For more information on dates and other details, visit www.ot-ceret.fr.

This year the town will celebrate the 20th edition of the Cherry Festival, an event during which the town paints itself red, the shops are adorned with cherry decorations, and when the sweet aroma of cherries will accompany us the whole day through if we plan our visit along the Pirinexus route to coincide with these unique days.

If you decide to visit the Cherry Festival, you will also be able to see different human towers (castelleres), Havaneres Singing Festivals (traditional sailor songs), sardanes (traditional dancing), and even the bizarre tradition of spitting cherry stones, where the one who manages to spit the stone the furthest is the winner! You can find more information to organise your visit to this fun and delicious festival at www.festes.org.
